Country Crest is a produce grower in North County Dublin with a commitment to green energy and practices. They also have a substantial processing and refrigeration needs on site in a vast 23,000 square foot facility.
As a company on the pathway to being energy-self sufficient, they have a wind turbine to drive power to their processing plant. An excellent achievement in modern plant management now means they have an opportunity to capitalise further on their radical and innovative approach.
Having a wind turbine onsite effectively means the energy used prevents the generation of GHG emissions from burning of fossil fuel. Putting up for sale the credits generated by this wind turbine gives other organisations a chance to invest in environmentally friendly thinking without having the facilities to drive it themselves.
These credits were created retrospectively as the windmill had been up and running for 17 months before applying for credits. These retrospective credits required an initial auditing by a certified ISO 14064-2 Projects Expert and followed by a third party verification by a certified ISO 14064 -3 Verifier of both projects and inventories. These people were found on the list of auditors. The third party verification report was submitted to Cosain who issued the carbon credits, each with unique serial numbers to the company.
They in turn through the Cosain website registered the credits on the Markit Environmental website, who made the final check that the documentation provided by the initial auditor and verifier conformed to the Cosain standard. Once accepted by the registry they are good to trade.
Country crest now has now has a supplementary income rewarding it for its innovation in securing renewable power. It has raised the identity of its brand by its produce being sustainable and created in a clean and efficient manner.
They have shown their production mechanisms to be working to best practice international standards, and this reflects in the quality of its produce. This has natural attractions to both buyers (supermarkets etc) and customers who give value to these actions in the items they're purchasing.
