As a services company, our client has a large central HQ in Dublin, and they retain a branch network in organisational terms. They require extensive travel with intensive levels of power usage needed to do business on a daily basis. Sources of consumption include thousands of office employees, data centres and more.
As an overall statement, they needed to continue to set targets to reduce their emissions annually. Initially they needed to decrease their energy use to reduce costs, but retain productivity. They also were prompted to find internal solutions immediately to extensive business travel and curbing conventional energy usage like light and heat where possible.
Using an extensive process, they kick-started their project with an ISO 14064 -1 Quantification Inventory undertaken for their business. The level of annual energy usage and emission generation is calculated for a business through an ISO 14064-1 audit.
These emissions are used as the baseline from which the firm sets its own target to make efficiencies and reduce emissions over the next 12 months. The target is formed by a combination of emission reductions through internal efficiencies, and the purchase of Irish generated credits through Cosain.
They now have developed a strategy for saving on energy costs. With a stated energy efficiency benchmark, they can compare themselves directly with market leaders worldwide using ISO 14064.
Their public statement of efficiency targets allows them to connect directly with all stakeholders and customer on an energy efficiency platform. They now have the ability to self-report, with efficiency described as CO2e per head of employee or unit of production.
